Auction History
Visiting todays auctions are like taking a step in the past. Precious family heirlooms, prime real estate, valuable works of art, are just a few things found regularly at auctions across America and around the world.
Auctions are believed to have took hold in America during the Civil War. When a soldier gave his life on the battlefield, the colonel would auction off the soldiers belongings and then send the money home to soldiers family. This is why many auctioneers today are called colonel.
Matthew LaRaviere is honored to continue successfully a family tradition that started in 1979.
Auctions! Why even consider it?
Since 1979, Matthew LaRaviere has assisted thousands of sellers successfully. From personal property to valuable pieces of real estate, we can assist you in receiving maximum dollar in the shortest amount of time. We do this at very little cost to you compared with what you will ultimately receive by choosing the auction method.
In an auction, time is of essence. Buyers will travel hundreds, if not thousands of miles, to participate, or in better terms, compete for the items being sold. Most auctions are held and completed in one day, which causes the buyers to come to the point of decision since tomorrow the item they are considering will no longer be available. Because of this, items sold at auction tend to bring at or above current market values.
Another added benefit to having an auction is that everything will be sold. Nothing will be left to sell or dispose of. Most sellers choose the auction method for this reason. They do not want to have to mess with pricing, selling, and moving the items that nobody wanted.
Auctions! Its what we do.
From free consultation, to marketing and promotion, to actually conducting a successful sale, Matthew Alan LaRaviere does it all. Since we work for you on a commission basis, we also have an interest in having a successful auction.
A successful auction should not be considered a foregone conclusion. It is only after careful planning by the auctioneer, an extensive marketing campaign, and a well organized conduction of the auction, do we consider it a success.
